Applied Anatomy: Case Studies

(formerly "Functional Anatomy 2")

with Jon Witt, Erica Mather, Amanbir Singh, and Erin Moon

Guest Teachers: Esco Wilson and Stephanie Vitollo

Hosted by Dana Slamp

This innovative, advanced yoga course helps you approach yoga through the lens of anatomy to create personalized yoga sessions for your clients - regardless of past injuries, aging, or perceived limitations. Private yoga teaching and yoga therapy sessions should be as diverse as our clientele.

Instead of just reading anatomy books, practice applying your anatomy knowledge by "reading bodies" - observing yoga leaders working one-on-one with their clients, and bringing the anatomy to life. Then, every week you can practice teaching and observational skills on your own, reviewing your work with supportive feedback from our expert faculty.

In this course, we will study:

  • A review of the kosha system for assessing clients and teaching holistically.
  • How to work “uptown” and “downtown” of a musculoskeletal imbalance for a balance of strength and flexibility.
  • The limits of “yogapathy” and how to teach to the whole person
  • A weekly review of anatomical considerations when approaching asana - including common imbalances in the musculoskeletal system.
  • A weekly review of professional case studies with leaders in therapeutic yoga
  • Observe your teachers' therapeutic yoga sessions with real clients (when possible) and practice anatomy-informed asana protocols
  • Weekly practice assignments to improve your ability to”read bodies” and to craft holistic therapeutic sessions for your clients
